A Snapshot of the Church

St. Luke's AltarSt. Luke's was founded in North Dallas in 1949. Although we're a 50-year-plus parish, in many ways we are now in our "second youth." Continuing to build on growth begun in earlier years, St. Luke's is both an established church and a community of faith that is eager to welcome new members to our family.

If you are familiar with Dallas, you may have passed by St. Luke's, which is notable for its distinctive round worship space. Completed in 1959, it has been described as "a church built around an altar." The architect, William Hidell, Jr., said of the circular form: "it is a dramatic interpretation of the basic concept of worship, the centrality of the altar being the focal point for all service. With all communicants seated no more than nine rows from the altar rail . . . one is filled with a sense of really being a member of God's family, a sense of unity and fellowship . . ."
