Taking Pancakes Home

Taking Pancakes Home

Why do churches hold Pancake Suppers? Shrove Tuesday is the last

day before Lent begins. As Lent is a time of prayer, preparation, and

repenting, Shrove Tuesday is the last day to eat all those goodies you

are about to give up. Historically, making pancakes was a good way

to use up all the fat, cream, butter, and eggs in the house before the

Lenten fast. Out of this came the tradition of pancake suppers that

many parishes hold today.

I challenge each of you to bring Pancake Supper to your own home. This

is what it could look like:

:  Have pancakes for dinner, or whatever your family is giving up for

Lent, and talk the real meaning of Lent.

:  Invite your friends, neighbors, and fellow parishioners over for

     your own pancake supper.

:  Have pancake relays after dinner for bring some fun into the

tradition (look for instructions in this Evangeline)

:  Take what you learn on Sundays and make it part of your every

day life. God has called us to live our faith, and taking Lent back

home is a great place to start.

Pancake Relays

You need a light weight frying pan for flipping and left over pancakes

after dinner. Divide into two teams. To play, walk as quickly as you can

to a marked line and back. With each step, flip the lid and catch it in

the frying pan. Then, pass the frying pan and lid to the next person on

your team so that he can do the same thing. First team to finish wins.
