Music Ministries
The main objective of the Music Ministry at St. Luke's is best stated by the hymn text written by Fred Pratt Green: "How often, making music, we have found a new dimension in the world of sound, as worship moved us to a more profound Alleluia!" Whether the service is English or Spanish, traditional or contemporary, the Music Ministry leadership strives each week to lead God's people in thought provoking, heart-felt worship. St. Luke's diverse ministry has a wonderful heritage of fine music making and offers a place of service for all.
Music for All Ages
In the spirit of Deacon Dorothy Michaelsen, who had a unique gift of stirring creativeness in those around her, St. Luke's has created a series of musical events to highlight God's gift of creativeness. Events are held once a month during the Academic year. Contact Duane Roth or click here for more information.
The River
The River blends the rich tradition of Anglican liturgy and cutting edge adult contemporary worship music. A casual atmosphere combined with passionate worship make this the ideal place to reconnect with God on a weekly basis, especially for those new to faith, or returning to faith.
For more information about The River please contact Justin Stanton.
Spanish Music Leadership
A growing number of Spanish speaking worshipers meet as a part of the St. Luke's family. Both instrumentalists and vocalists are needed to lead in this service. Contact Father J. J. Bernal for more information.
Private Keyboard Lessons
Weekly piano or organ lessons are provided at the church for children and adults. Contact Susan De Kam for more information.
Music for Children: Ages 4-12
Music activities for age 4 - Kindergarten: Room 201, 6:30 Family Night Wednesdays
Through vocal exploration, basic rhythmic activities, and musical games, this ministry helps younger children find their voices in worship.
Children's Choir for Grades 1 - 6: Room 210, 6:30 Family Night Wednesdays
The Children's Choir will occasionally participate in services as worship leaders. With that goal in mind, time will be spent on learning basic musical skills, as well as learning hymns, service music, and anthems. Participation is also encouraged in the local Choristers Guild Children's Choir Festival each February.
Vacation Bible School and Music Camp: June 16 - 22, 2008
In mid-June each year, Vacation Bible School is offered in the mornings for children ages 3 through the 5th grade. The children interact with Bible stories through music, art, drama, worship, and games. In the afternoons following Vacation Bible School and a provided lunch, Music Camp is available for children going into the 1st - 6th grades. During Music Camp, the children will be learning a musical which will be performed during the Christian Education time on Sunday the 23rd.
Music for Youth: Grades 7 - 12
The S.L.Y. Vocal Ensemble
This ministry allows the Junior and Senior High youth of our church to find their voices in worship. The program is currently being redeveloped to adapt to the needs of this age group. Please contact Duane Roth for more information.
Festival Singers
During the rehearsal times prior to Christmas and Easter, youth in grades 10 and above are invited to sing with the adults for special choral programs and services. Youth may sing with the adults on a regular basis with a short interview with the director. Contact Duane Roth if interested.
All Saints Handbell Choir
This primarily adult group welcomes any youth wishing to participate. Please contact Susan De Kam for more information.
Music for Adults
The All Saints Choir
This is the primary service choir of St. Luke's. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and conclude at 9:30 p.m. with a short break for coffee and fellowship in between. The choir sings every Sunday, but breaks from Wednesday rehearsals in July. Additional performances have included a European tour, choral evensongs, and a collaborative performance with local Preston Hollow area churches. New members are welcome to join at any point during the year. Contact Duane Roth for information.
The All Saints Handbell Choir
This ensemble prepares music for the occasional worship service and participates in a Handbell Festival each spring. Rehearsals run for five concurrent weeks on Wednesday evenings in the fall and again in the winter. Music reading is a plus, but not mandatory. New members are always welcome. Please contact Susan De Kam if interested in joining.
Festival Singers
Anyone that cannot make a full year commitment to the choir is welcome to join our rehearsals and services when we rehearse for Christmas, Easter, and other major choral events. If interested, please contact Duane Roth.
Instruments at St. Luke's
The primary organ used for weekly worship at St. Luke's is the Aeolian-Skinner Organ, Opus 1438. For special services sometimes held in the Chapel, St. Luke's also has the William Longmore Organ, Opus 2. For the complete information about the organs at St. Luke's, please click here.
Other instruments
St. Luke's is blessed to have many other instruments to worship God. The children's area uses many rhythm and Orff style instruments. Pianos are located in the chapel, rehearsal hall, children's choir room, and the sanctuary, which holds the recently purchased 7'6" Yamaha Grand. The church also uses three octaves of Malmark handbells and five octaves of recently purchased Malmark Choirchimes.
